报告题目：From Item to Basket-oriented Recommendation
报告人：Fang Yuan（Singapore Management University ）
Abstract: Recommendation systems are increasingly important in the age of information overload. While traditional approaches focus on individual items, in many scenarios, multiple items are simultaneously adopted as a basket. The associations between items in the same basket, or basket-oriented
associations, present new opportunities to improve recommendation. In particular, we study how additional items can be recommended to complement an existing basket before check-out, as well as how a new basket of items can be presented to users based on their historical baskets. Our models capture basket-oriented associations, along with other traditional types of associations, to achieve basket oriented recommendation. Empirical results suggest that our basket-oriented models are promising and significantly outperform item-centric models.
FANG Yuan is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University (SMU). Prior to joining SMU, he spent three years at A*STAR as a research scientist. he obtained a PhD Degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014 on a fully funded scholarship from A*STAR, and Bachelor of Computing with First Class Honours from National University of Singapore in 2009 as the top student in Computer Science. His general interest lies in the broad areas of data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly learning on graph and information networks, recommendation systems and Web and social media analytics.
